Brahma Kumaris at the United Nations

The Brahma Kumaris is an international non–governmental organisation (NGO) in general consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and in consultative status with UNICEF. It is also affiliated to the UN Department of Public Information.

 

The Brahma Kumaris support the United Nations activities in many ways:

  • Supporting the UN Millennium Development Goals through a wide range of programmes promoting education; empowerment of women; holistic health and well-being; and environmental sustainability.
  • Sharing their expertise in human values to bring an ethical and spiritual approach to global issues.
  • Highlighting the purpose and principles of the UN by initiating activities of social and humanitarian nature on a global scale.
  • Providing platforms for dialogue through its international network of centres for people to voice their opinions on critical matters and present them at UN forums.
Presenting statements and position papers in UN world summits, such as on the Information Society in Geneva, on Sustainable Development in South Africa, at Habitat II in Istanbul, on Social Development in Geneva, on Human Rights and Values at UN’s 50th anniversary, on Youth at Lisbon, on Women at Beijing, on Environment at Rio de Janeiro and others.
